Errors and retries
Use the response status to show a useful message and decide whether a request can be retried.
Common status codes
| Status | Meaning | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| 201 | Rental created | Save the rental ID. |
| 200 | Existing rental returned | The same request was safely repeated. |
| 401 / 403 | Authentication or access problem | Check the key and rental ownership. |
| 404 | Project or rental not found | Check the project slug or rental ID. |
| 422 | Invalid request | Correct the fields and send again. |
| 429 | Too many requests | Wait, then retry with backoff. |
Safe retries
Every create request needs an Idempotency-Key. Use one unique value for each intended rental, such as your own order reference. If the request times out, repeat the same request with the same key. Unlimited Plug returns the existing result instead of creating a second rental.
Do not reuse a key: Never use an old idempotency key for a different customer or order.
